What health problems may be solved with assistance from BAA?
Based on the class to which a BAA belongs, their use is recommended in the following situations: the use of nutriceutics (proteins and individual essential amino acids; lipids and individual fatty acids, in particular, poly-unsaturated acids; sacharids and sugars; vitamins and substances similar to vitamins; macro elements and trace elements, fibre) – useful to supplement lack of these components in daily dosage.
The use of nutriceutics may be an efficient form of prevention against chronic diseases – obesity, ateroscleroris, ischemic heart disease, hypertension, immunity deficit, and malignant diseases. In a number of cases, it is good to include BAAs of this group in overall treatment of these diseases. The minority food components – organic acids, biogenic amins, sponins, flavonoids, polyphenols, and other substances with varied chemical structure belong among para-pharmaceuticals. Many of these are the "secondary plant components" (SPC) that were formerly considered to be useless or, even, dangerous. A human obtains a maximum of 1.5 g of SPC per day through regular food composed of 5 to 10 thousand of various substances. The content of the SPC in plants is very low when compared to the main components such as fat, proteins, and sacharids. But they also play protective role in their entirety and that is why they were labelled phytochemicals (phytoprotectors, literally "phytochemical compounds"). Many SCPs help prevent the emergence and development of malignant formations, they reduce the level of cholesterol, and they have anti-oxidant, immunity modulation and anti-microbiotic effects. BAA regulating appetite, helping support of regular condition and functioning of micro flora in the intestines (eubiotics) are also ranked among para-pharmaceuticals. They are chiefly used as means of ancillary therapy and adaptation to extreme conditions. Efficient prevention of diseases, treatment and rehabilitation of patients must be based on precise understanding of the essence of the disease. Malfunctioning of metabolism is precisely what links all diseases of living organisms. There is not a single disease that would not be accompanied by an apparent or illicit malfunctioning of metabolism. In order to prevent diseases and to treat the sick, it is therefore necessary to standardise metabolism in the organism in an efficient manner, in the part (or parts) where a defect occurred for the specific human. One of the basic devices for normal metabolism and its adjustment is food. "Be your food your medicine and be your medicine your food" wrote Hippocrates, the father of medicine. But, in order for food to work as prevention and medicine, it must have full value and must be balanced and it must contain all nutrients necessary for the organism in optimum amounts: vitamins, minerals, hormones, amino acids, essential fatty acids, fibre, etc. But human food is far from ideal; many necessary nutrients are missing from it. Unfavourable environmental conditions, pollution of food, water and air by various poisonous substances, radionuclides, heavy metal salts, carcinogens, mutagens, herbicides etc. led to reduction in protective forces of organisms, to more frequent occurrence of diseases, including oncological diseases, and to increased mortality of humankind. In this situation, biologically active food additives (BAA) have a special position because they represent natural complexes of biologically high-quality substances such as vitamins, hormones, trace elements, amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids, food supplements, etc.
