Biologically Active Additives
WHAT ARE BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE ADDITIVES? BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE FOOD ADDITIVES
Recently, we have had the opportunity to observe dramatic deterioration of human health. Many scientists link this problem with a number of factors: deficit of vital nutrients for human organism, staying in environmentally unfavourable conditions, stress, aging of the population. Within this context, leading world scientists recommend wide usage of biologically active additives as an efficient form of solving the problem related to the need of changing food dosage. The emergence of BAAs was assisted by unique modern technologies making it possible to satisfy the needs of a human with respect to intake of indispensable substances such as vitamins, minerals, extracts from healing plants, fibre, amino acids, poly-unsaturated fatty acids, etc.
What are BAAs after all – subsistence of the 21st century or quackery? There are differing views mainly because people are not capable of facing this issue on their own.
Unfortunately, sceptic approach is often transferred from variously promoted additives to all other BAAs. These facts are difficult to prove; this is even impossible, as the authors of the articles usually do not mention their sources. Many people do not trust BAAs because they doubt the quality of these products. Are they certified after all? As a result, consumers do not know where they can obtain objective information. Sometimes, the information is not readily available as it is published only in expert magazines, little known methodology publications and legal regulations.
What is a BAA?
In scientific and medical literature, we see various interpretations of this term. However, based on a definition, BAAs are concentrates (mixtures) of natural substances or substances identical to natural biologically active substances that may be used directly or that may be added to food.... Why should we be using BAAs?
- due to stress, requirements of organism with respect to intake of
vitamins of the В and С groups increase,
- air pollution in city agglomerations requires use of sufficient
amount of vitamin E and other anti-oxidants,
- our soil is low in minerals (mineral substances); that is why we do
not obtain them in sufficient amounts from food,
- insufficient intake of iodine with water and food is the cause for
malfunction of the thyroid gland,... [ details ]
How are BAA certified?
The system of certification of BAAs ensures strict control of quality of local as well as imported products. Research required to issue a certificate is done by laboratories accredited in the system of the ministry of healthcare.... [ details ]
Is it true that BAAs are so popular?
In developed countries, the use of BAA (dietary supplements, nutritional supplements) and food with BAA (functional foods) is much more widespread. In the USA, for example, already in 1994, BAA was used by more than 50% of the population and there were around 600 businesses producing 4,000 items of these products in the country and the volume of sales of BAA and products containing them amounted to an incredible 11.1 billion dollars.... [ details ]
Are components contained in BAA capable of causing side effects?
Pursuant to legislation for expertise and hygienic certification of BAA in relation to food, "...biologically active food additives must not contain strong-effect, toxic and poisonous substances or plant raw materials not used in medical practice or in nutrition".... [ details ]
What health problems may be solved with assistance from BAA?
Based on the class to which a BAA belongs, their use is recommended in the following situations: the use of nutriceutics (proteins and individual essential amino acids; lipids and individual fatty acids, in particular, poly-unsaturated acids; sacharids and sugars; vitamins and substances similar to vitamins; macro elements and trace elements, fibre) – useful to supplement lack of these components in daily dosage.... [ details ]
What is the difference between BAAs and pharmacological preparations and plant therapeutic devices?
Biological components of BAAs are obtained using highly efficient and patented technologies from natural plant and animal products. This dramatically increases their value and helps better absorption in organism.... [ details ]
What kinds and forms of BAA exist?
Biologically active food additives are produced in the form of extracts, tinctures, balms, isolates, and powder, dry as well as liquid concentrates, syrups, tablets, and capsules as well as in other forms.... [ details ]
